A basic electronics project that introduces you to digital logic circuits is building an XOR gate on a breadboard. With the help of this applied tutorial, you can improve your knowledge of logic gates and circuit design by constructing an XOR gate on analog and digital trainers.

Importance:

Anyone interested in electronics and digital systems must learn how to create XOR gates. XOR gates are widely used in many applications, such as data encryption, detection of errors, and arithmetic processing. Knowing this crucial part will prepare you for a more complex digital circuit.

Procedure and requirement:

It is easy to create an OR gate circuit using a board. The instruments required are:

Procedure and requirement

  • IC chip74LS86 will be required, consisting of 14 pins, where pin#14 is known as VCC while pin#7 is also known as GND(ground) is connected to the -ve terminal.
  • Two switches are also required as they will operate as input to the IC.
  • The power supply of 5V only, if a higher supply is provided, the IC chip will be damaged. Here we are using Analogue and Digital Trainer that will provide us the power supply 5V.
  • Jump wires are also required to connect all the components and circuits.
  • LED light to check whether the circuit is operating perfectly or if there is any damaged gate or IC in the circuit.
  • A resistor of resistance of 100 - 110 ohms is required and connected to the -ve terminal of the battery and the -ve terminal of the LED Light before giving ground the LED light otherwise this will damage the LED light. As we are using analog and digital trainers we have inbuild resistance.
  • Turn on the power supply, to see if the Circuit is working perfectly use the truth table to clarify.
  • The structure of the individual gate is given below, it will help you to identify and understand the internal logic of the IC chip.
