An IC chip and a breadboard are needed for a basic electronics project: building an OR gate. It offers illustrations of fundamental circuit design concepts and logic operations. You must comprehend this arrangement if you want to increase your practical electronics skills and learn how digital systems function.

It is easy to create a gate circuit using a breadboard. The instruments required are:

  • IC chip having the number 74LS32 is required. This has 14 pins where pin#14 is VCC meaning it is connected to +ve 5V supply while Pin#7 is GND of -ve 5V
  • Two switches at least
  • A power supply of 5V, max will be required. If a higher power supply is provided then the IC chip will be damaged and might have a chance to burn, for this, we are using Analog and Digital trainers.
  • Jump wires will be required to connect all the components of the circuit.
  • LED light to check whether the circuit is operating perfectly or if there is any damaged gate in the circuit.
  • A resistor of resistance about 100 - 110 ohms before giving ground the LED light is ok even if the resistor is not connected but the 5V supply might result in malfunction of the LED Light since we have used Analog and Digital trainers. It is not necessary to use resister but if you only have a power supply of a max 5V then use this method if not click on this for the method if you are making it at home and have a battery of power supply of 9V.

  • Connecting the VCC with the +ve terminal means the red terminal and GND with a -ve terminal of the power source.
  • The first 2 pins are input and the 3rd is output, which means pins 1 and 2 are input connected with a switch, and pin 3 is connected with led light to show output.
  • The IC structure and pin number as input and output are shown in the picture below.

  • If a higher supply is given it will not show any results as it will damage the IC. If the resistance is low then it might damage the LED light and IC. So, follow the instructions given.
  • The gate inside Thic IC is given below.

To see if the ic is working properly use the switch accordingly as shown in the truth table.

Its Truth Table and Circuit diagram of IC are given below.
